LITTLE FISH SHOP @ NEX

This Saturday is not a stay-home Saturday for us, because we were invited to a "food tasting" session at the Little Fish Shop at NEX.  Now for those who do not know, NEX is the latest shopping mall at Serangoon Central (Serangoon MRT).  Check out the place if you have not been.

Little Fish Shop is situated at a nice quiet corner on the fourth floor.  Upon arrival, you will be able to see some nice live oysters from the window display.  A pretty sight even when oysters have never been my kind of food. I just find they are pretty to look at. But do bear in mind, they are ALIVE!!   I have always thought this kind of oysters are frozen.

Once seated, we were busy going through their super long menu, with the numerous promotions that they have.  They also have a wide varieties of fishes to choose from - Baramundi, Tusk Fish, Yellow Fin Tuna, NZ Pink Salmon, European Monkfish "Lotte", Black Cod, Alaskan Wild Sockeye Salmon just to name a few, and the way you want it to be cooked (Pan Seared, Baked, Steamed, Chargrilled, Battered or Crumbed), you can specify that to the chef as well.

This is their All Day Specials.

According to them, Monday is the most popular because of the Lobster!

To start off, we had some bread with Olive oil and Balsamic dressing.

They also served us some of their popular drinks which includes Peach and Honey, Mango Organic Green Tea Passion Fruit Banana Blue Berry.

The most popular is the Cucumber Cooler (the one with the lime on it).  My favorite goes to the Peach, then the Cucumber Cooler.  Never really fancy banana as a drink..so ...

Next comes the colorful Cold Seafood Platter ($49.95).  You can choose to add another $19.95 for half a lobster.

Seafood platter contains  New Zealand Green Lip Mussels and Clams, Cooked Live prawns, Cold Smoked Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Sashimi, Live oysters!

If cold stuff is not your kind of food, not  to worry, they have the warm cooked seafood platter too, which includes Mixed Battered Fish, Grilled Calamari, Battered Prawns, Mussels in White Wine, Clam Strips with Salad and Chips for $39.95.

Did you know that if you touch the oysters, you can see it move.  It means they are really fresh and alive when you eat them.  Gosh! I didn't know they are alive.

This is a close up of the oyster.

After the Starters, we had some soup samples:

Trio of Mushroom, Lobster Bisque and Boston Clam Chowder with Herb Croutons.

Since I am allergic to alchohol, I had specially requested for no brandy in my Lobster Bisque. If you are a seafood craze, you may like the Clam chowder and Lobster Bisque.

The maincourses includes Monkfish, Chargrilled Sirloin, Spaghetti, Mash Potatoes, Salad and grilled vegetables.   Small portions of the Mains are combined into one plate for easy sampling.. So what you see here is not the actual presentation for the each maincourse.

Monkfish is not a common fish that you can get from most restaurants, and it is their best seller. My first time tasting it too, the texture is a bit chewy, unlike the usual fish texture that we expect.  Quite an experience.  My favorite goes to the Chargrilled Sirlion, coz I am a beef lover. Heehee..

Leaving some space for dessert in my tiny stomach is quite a challenge, especially after finishing all that delicious maincourses.

Dessert is pretty! Again, they are samples of Warm Apple Crumble and Chococlate Fondant.

Here is a close up of the Apple Crumble (served with passion fruit sauce and clotted cream).

This is their signature Chocolate Fondant - Baked chocolate with a molten center and mix berry jam. I like this one more.

So, we have come to the end of the session which took us more than 2 hours to complete.  I have learnt some stuff about seafood and fishes, all thanks to their knowledgeable staff to explain so many things to us.  This is one fish shop that puts FRESHNESS as their priority.  You know you will be served the freshest catch of whatever you ordered.

This is the Little Fish Shop, not that little because of the wide varieties that  they offered. If you are in the area and wanted some fresh exquisite fish and seafood, why not give them a try.  A typical meal for two will start from $70 if you order a Main, Starter and Soup.
