CALIFORNIA HANDROLL

Today is our first attempt at making sushi rice and also California handroll.  We do not have all the necessary ingredients, but just made the best of what we have on hand.  I would say it was pretty successful.

Ingredients for making 6-8 handrolls:
1 cup (blue glass) of Japanese Rice
3 teaspoon of sushi vinegar
1 teaspoon of sugar
sea salt (abt 10 rounds the grinder)
1 and a third cup (blue glass) of water. I would personally prefer 1.5 cup water to make the rice softer
Crabsticks from Isetan Supermarket
Seaweed
Avocado from Mexico (not nice)
Japanese Cucumber
Ebiko - prawn roe

Instructions:
Wash rice thorough and drain dry
After drying, pour rice into rice cooker and add water and soak for about half an hour before turning on the power to cook
After cooking, transfer rice to bowl and add the vinegar etc.
Ready to serve

My wrapping was disastrous, so no photo for the blog. Hahaha but taste is ok, except the avocado is way too unripe.

Updated with photos on 30 Jan 2014.

This is by KK, mine was disastrous..

CURRY RICE FROM MEIDI-YA

I was at Liang Court MeiDi-Ya for my dinner last friday. Thanks to my friend, Cat's recommendation, I have love this dish since then.

I am talking about the Curry Rice Pork Cutlet ($12.30). I ordered the Hito version because the meat is more tender.  Love this as much as the one from Taka, because the gravy is served separately. I hate it when the curry is served together with the rice in the same plate. Each meal is served together with  a glass of plain water.  How I  wish soup is included as well..

JAP FOOD - ROMANKAN YOKOHAMA

Went down to Takashimaya last Wednesday for dinner. Where else in Taka but Romankan Yokkohama of course. This round, I had the Rosu Katsu set (S$15)- no regrets, it is good, portion is so huge that I could not finish my food again. KK has the Ebi/fillet Katsu (S$15). We didn't have any curry this time.

Here's my Rosu Katsu.

IFRESHCO DELIGHTS - CHICKEN AND VEGETARIAN

Met up with my friend for dinner at ifreshco just now. Today, they introduced a  totally new dish - Lemongrass chicken. As my stomach is still not well, I could not take a full meal, I decided to take something lighter, so I opted for a vegetarian bento without rice. KK tried the new lemongrass chicken.

IFRESHCO DELIGHTS - SABA

My dinner this evening, decided to take something different from my usual vegetarian bento. This is grilled teriyaki saba. Kinda not used to not having much vege, I think I missed my vegetables. This dish is cool, the fish has no bones! So it is easy to eat. Portion is just nice for me, not too much. Give it a try if you like fish.

YUMMY DINNER AT IFRESHCO

We had ifreshco again today. Something new we had today, I had the vegetarian bento, special request for no sesame and no mushroom. KK had the Yuzu Miso Rice, a little touch of spiciness and very fragrant because of the yuzu.

Below you find Ifreschco logo, did that just for fun, I find their logo so creative and cute.

HIYASHI CHUKA SOBA

This is a special entry from my friend Gerald Lim, a young promising photographer. Photo taken by him of course. What we have here is Hiyashi Chuka Soba from Sushi Tei, it consists of egg, crabmeat, jap fish cake, beansprouts, pickled ginger, cucumber, sesame seed powder, ramen with the tangy jap sauce and a dash of mustard.
One of his favorite dish, which he recommends. For more info on this young photographer, check out his blog: http://leavethe-heart.tumblr.com/
